If the soil is hard: Stones, boulders (in my case-practically all the islands and the coast of the seaside region), then on the cellular one you will feel all the irregularities of the relief with your body, the balloon one will hide them. But this particular mattress is very compact, which is an undoubted plus for a limited space in a backpack or kayak. As a conscious purchase-I recommend.
